Common SolidWood Questions.

Why choose a Solidwood home?
Solid wood homes are durable, sustainable, strong and warm, and can be built to almost any plan you want.
Are Solidwood homes sustainable?
Solid Wood is natural, biodegradable and locks up large amounts of CO2 indefinitely. And if the forests are replanted after harvest, it’s the only renewable building resource on the planet! Providing the forests are being replanted after harvest!
Are Solidwood homes energy efficient?
Solid Wood has high insulation and thermal mass meaning that less energy is required to heat, cool and ventilate a SolidWood building. Studies at Lincoln University have confirmed that the energy performance of Solid Wood Construction is superior to that of timber frame construction, a direct benefit in the pocket
Do the interior walls on a Solidwood home only have one shade of colour of wood?
Painting techniques have been developed which can change the shade of a timber wall, it can be blonded, giving a much paler finish suitable for light airy spacious homes or toned down with a yellow finish to give the traditional mellow feeling of a well loved Solidwood home. Technology is being developed that will allow any colour to be applied throughout the timber, so any cuts / holes etc will be the same colour as the surface.
How durable are the walls?
Durability – example of childcare centre in Christchurch being rebuilt with solidwood 3 mths after the gib walls were redecorated. There are many examples of durability, people have frequently mentioned that Solidwood construction is ideal for rental properties, as it can resist the wear and tear of people who do not care as much for the property they live in.
